Question about the manufacture of lifting hooks on v. large floating cranes?

I am looking for some of your expert guidance to help me with an assignment I am working on - I have to identify the material and grade used in the construction of lifting hooks (two of them rated at 925 tonnes) on a very large floating crane. If anyone has any relevant information that they could take a couple of minutes to assist me in this research it would be very much appreciated.

I would think that at that loading and application the lifting hooks would be manufactured by forging and the material is a nickel-steel of equivalent. This process and material is a good place to start your research. Try contacting lifting hoist hook manufacturers and read thier product marketing specifications - this should give you more hints and information.

Hello, did you have any luck with your search for information? I'm answering the same question too and hoping for a little bit of guidance.

Any information you get from anyone other than an actual manufacturer is suspect. Not making any comments about the quality of input from this forum. Just saying it's not the best place for a reliable and definitive answer.
