the reason ring material is weaker tha pipe is the safety and economic reasons. for example I would change the gasket and spend a few dollars in a few hours rather than changing the all pipe and spending quite a few thousands of dollars. and spending days maybe.
it might be thinner but tougher than the pipe material.
