Use this equation and calculator to determine the the torque and force to drive material in linear motion with respect to a continuous fixed relation to a rotational drive/velocity. Such as, a material moving system or conveyor machine pulley.

Equation:

and (Moment of Inertia) for a typical material in linear motion driven by a continuous fixed relation to a rotational speed, such as a conveyor system drive pulley and wheel:

Where:

T = Required Torque, lb-ft
WK2 =   Total Mass Moment of Inertia of load to be accelerated  lb-ft2
(See Mass Moment of inertia calculations)
Change of speed, rpm
t =  Time to accelerate the load, seconds
W = Weight of object, lb
V = Linear velocity, fpm
N = Rotational speed of shaft, rpm
