Self Tapping Screws Installation Design
When designing for self-tapping screws, a number of factors are important:
American Wood Screws
This page contains two tables, the first for wood screws two inches or less in length, and the second for screws two inches or more in length. The green boxes indicate commonly available sizes and the red boxes sizes that, while made, are hard to find.
Pilot Holes for American Wood Screws
These dimensions are for standard American wood screws, which are tapered. They are not suitable for screws which are not tapered, such as dry wall screws. All dimensions are in inches. The shank pilot hole is one which will clear the thickest part of the screw body.
U-Bolt Application and Design
U-bolt Design and Application - U-bolts are single piece cold or hot formed fasteners. U-bolts are manufactured from wire and round stock by cold or hot forming methods. U-bolts are sold throughout industry, are available with saddle clamps and can be custom manufactured to design specifications. With all custom manufactured hardware, there will be setup costs in terms of tooling.
